Snackr v0.39 TEST available; Snackr beta program
Posted by Narciso Jaramillo under Snackr15 Comments
After a long hiatus, I’ve just posted a new test build of Snackr, 0.39. There are just a few new features and bugfixes in this release (see the release notes), including the much-requested option to remove Snackr from the taskbar on Windows. However, I’d like to promote this to an official build that gets pushed out to all Snackr users through autoupdate.
So, please back up your database and feed list, download v0.39 TEST and check it out! As always, you can leave comments here on issues that you find, file them at the issue tracker on Google Code, or send me email.
Also, I’m thinking of instituting an “official” beta program for Snackr. The requirements for participation are low:
- be willing to get announcement emails every so often
- download new test builds as they come out and use them for a few days
- answer a quick survey on each build saying how well the build is working for you
If you’re interested, please fill out the beta signup form. Thanks!

Umm, going to reinstall v0.39 with the backup I took before the update as I have a problem with v0.39 – I switched it to display new items across all feeds and now I just have ‘No more unread items.’ – a few moments ago I had a full streaming list of items.
Is this expected?
Restarted snackr and same behaviour I’m afraid – it’s as if it’s displaying all new feeds once and then marking them as read for me.
Ah-ha, more information for you.
Selecting ‘Newest items across all feeds’ shows the unread items once, then scrolls ‘No unread items.
Selecting ‘Newest items from random feeds’ shows a continuous stream of unread items.
@Phil–yes, that’s a bug in the “newest items across all feeds” feature that I forgot to address before making this build. I’ll need to go back and rethink how to make this work properly. Thanks for reporting it!
This is working great on Linux. Love the Greader integration.
Weeee, a brand new build… I’m all over it! 🙂 And, already signed up for the beta-program 🙂
THANK YOU for giving us the option to keep it away from the task bar, it was particularly annoying, and i am now much more happy to be using it, keep up the good work
i was just thinking for a future update, it might be good idea to at least have the option to remove pictures from feeds (many blogs don’t have any and looks strange when it gets dominated by one blog while the rest don’t have any) just a thought =]
Hi,
Thanks for the great new features. I noticed a few issues with this build though:
1. Same as #1
2. If snackr is started without an Internet connection, it does not load any items but keeps showing the loading graphic. The previous version used to display the older unread items (and those could even be expanded)
3. Following from 2, even after the system is connected to the Internet, snackr does not load the feeds but keeps showing the graphic.
A restart of snackr loaded the feeds correctly though
Hope this helps you in making this excellent application even better.
Thank you for this 🙂
Is this project still active or did you stop working on this?
Nice work.. i’ve add Snackr in my blog..
thak you…
Thx it work better, all picture are show now
Wish list (sort by priority):
1. Support in right to left languages.
2. send(Share) to facebook.
3. Search by tags or text in the feeds.
4. Fast navigation in items. Buttons.
5. Sort items by most viewed, comment and recent.
6. Control on font size
7. related items in the popup, from the same or other feed.
8. vidoes in popups.
9. items from users’ twitter and facebook Account (facebook conntect).
10. Personalized news – display items according to each reader’s personalized interests and history.
thanks,
avi.
I would like to help you adding new features.

Snapr is really nice but I think theres a lot of people who would like to see the following:
Preferences to:
1) Stop scrolling, and simply update and have a refresh button with 6-8 items to allow scrolling again
2) Under Feeds -> Have a checkbox to make a feed “live” or temporarily disable it.
This will allow you to have niche / project specific feeds grouped, and easily tick / untick groups on what you want to listen for.
Using RSS feeds correctly sometimes can make one feel like SuperMan (listening to what the world is saying… )
I see there’s no subscribe to comments, so if it does get updated feel free to email me
It would be nice to have the option for not only the latest feed but to choose to show all items for a particular feed(s).
