a death in the family

i guess we were looking the other way
the day that green died. we were not
  surprised but we were unprepared.
we had to redesign our stoplights and
find another symbol for envy. we had
  to replace emerald rings and jade
figurines. split pea soup was just a
memory, fading fast. at the wake, we
  mourned restricted possibilities;
mold would no longer exhibit the same
variety of color. we invited a young
  leprechaun to deliver the eulogy.
