SCHIZOPHRENIA OF OPTIC NERVE AND SHEATH

Subject: woman, 27 years of age. Left eye is normal. In right eye, vision varies from day to day; observed range is 20/15 at best to 20/230 at worst. Eye exhibits flattened affect, is unresponsive to therapy. Subject complains that eye sees voices, tends towards impulsive and exaggerated behavior. Extensive rupture of the choroid and laceration of the retina may have led to present condition. Previous physician diagnosed retinal bipolar disorder, and prescribed direct lithium injection into vitreous humour, a treatment which is, in hindsight, clearly contraindicated.

Suggestion: withhold treatment at this time, as eye lends fantastic cast to subject's perception, but does not otherwise impair day-to-day life.
